SAT and ACT Information

On-line registration is available. You can register for the SAT’s at www.collegeboard.com and the ACT’s at www.act.org. This website will also provide you with an overview of these tests so you can understand the difference between the two. It is possible to take both the SAT and ACT if you choose. Some students find they do better on one than the other. You can also take both tests as many times as you want and take the best scores from each test. Keep your options open, if you are unsure between a 2 or 4 year school, take the SAT’s or ACT’s. If you decide at the last minute you want to apply to 1 four year school you are now able to because you have met one of the main requirements.

SAT I- $43.00

ACT- $30.00 with no writing section and $44.50 with the writing section.
It is important that you check with the colleges you are applying to see whether they require the writing section.

Practice for these tests....

Here are more good test prep sites:  http://www.testprepreview.com/ and www.satprepplan.com

SCHOLARSHIPS WILL BE POSTED AS THEY ARE PROVIDED TO US!

FOR ALL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS AND DETAILS PLEASE HAVE YOUR SON OR DAUGHTER MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THEIR GUIDANCE COUNSELOR.
Please see Ms. Pesce in the Guidance Department with any questions

Please check the scholarship wall outside the guidance department each week to see if new scholarships have arrived. It is very important that you be proactive with the scholarship process. There is a tremendous amount of money available if you are willing to work for it. Please make use of the financial aid resources above. You should also consider calling the high school guidance department of your town to see if they have received additional scholarships that may not be available at NST. If you have further questions contact Kristin Pesce at (978) 762-0001 ext. 234.

ATTENTION SENIOR PARENTS

Below is a check-list that will hopefully help in applying for a PIN # to complete the FAFSA form.

  • The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a form that will qualify you for federal money. This money can be given to you through loans, grants or scholarships. This application is available now in the guidance department as well as on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

  • Completing the form on-line is more time efficient. To apply on-line you have to open up an account. Once you have opened an account you can fill out the form on line and have access to it at any time.

  • Go to the website www.fafsa.ed.gov click on the icon that says apply for a pin. Both you and your child must apply for your own pin number. This pin number will allow you to access your account at any time and will also allow you to electronically sign the form once you have completed it. By doing this you do not need to send in a signature page.

  • By applying on-line the program will not allow you to submit the form if there are any mistakes. However, if done on paper the form will be sent back to you to be corrected and will then have to be mailed out again. The process is much more extensive.

  • If you decide to apply on-line you do not need to complete the whole form at one time you have the capability with your pin number to work on one section and then go back the next day and complete the rest.

  • If you decide to apply through the paper form submit it shortly after January 1st in case there is a mistake on the form so you will have time to make corrections and send it back in before the deadline.

  • Often times when applying for the pin # if you provide FAFSA with an email address they will send it to you within a few days. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT LOOSE YOUR PIN #.  Any questions please call the guidance department.
