A Web directory is a listing of
hyperlinks to Web pages that is organized into hierarchical categories.
The difference between these and search engines is that people select the Web
pages to include in a Web directory. Yahoo is one of the oldest and most
respected.
Type in www.yahoo.com
Click Arts & Humanities/Literature
Click Authors
Click Classics@
The @ sign at the end of some of these categories indicates that this entry is a sort of a cross reference: you will be crossing over to another category if you select this link
Click Greek@
You will see that some links are shown in bold text and some with numbers in parentheses after them. These bolded will take you farther down the hierarchy. The number in parentheses after the link shows how many links youll find in that document. The regular text link will bring you directly to a web page
Click Homer@
Click The Odyssey
Look at the Web pages on the Odyssey.

Now, you try:
 | search for a hotel in Italy
|
 | search for info on the latest hurricane to hit the U.S. |

Yahoo combines a
search engine with a directory. This makes
it a hybrid search engine directory. You can stop in any category to enter
a search expression.
