The
philosophy of North Shore Technical High School is to recognize the
importance of maintaining high standards and a strong work ethic. Our
programs strive to prepare students with the knowledge and skills that
can be utilized in a world economy characterized by change, advances in
technology, and increasing job mobility. North Shore Technical High
School accepts the responsibility to prepare students to achieve high
levels of competence and self-fulfillment in their vocations, and other
life experiences.
By providing
teachers with the skills necessary to feel comfortable utilizing
technology in the classroom, students will in turn benefit.
Teachers who have had the proper training and support can address
all of the Massachusetts Recommended Instructional Technology Standards
and thus, best prepare students for what is ahead.
Standard 1.
Demonstrate
proficiency in the use of computers and applications as well as an understanding
of concepts underlying hardware, software, and connectivity.
Standard 2. Demonstrate
responsible use of technology and an understanding of ethics and safety issues
in using electronic media.
Standard 3. Demonstrate
ability to use technology for research, problem-solving, and communication.
Students locate, evaluate, collect, and process information from a
variety of electronic sources. Students
use telecommunications and other media to interact or collaborate with peers,
experts, and other audiences.
The
Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Education also emphasizes the need
for students to gain technology skills while learning the content of the
curriculum. Students should be
given the opportunity to utilize and practice technology in the context of the
classroom. If properly used,
computers can contribute to powerful learning in the classroom.
The Professional Development
Web Site was created to provide the teachers of NSTHS with the training and
resources they need to integrate technology into their curriculum.
