To benefit fully from his/her educational program,
regular attendance is necessary. It is expected that students will be in attendance every
school day, except in cases of illness or family emergency. Students are expected to
attend all scheduled classes during the school day. Students who do not attend
scheduled classes, or who are truant, will be disciplined. A student must be in
attendance 80% of all shop and class time or make up missing shop hours by the end of the
quarter in order to pass.
- Parents are requested to call the school
(extension 424) each morning if a student is to be absent and state the reason for such
absence.
- Upon return to school a student is required to submit a
note written in ink bearing a parent or guardians signature and stating the
reason for the absence, to the main office before homeroom period.
A Documented Absence shall be defined as:
- An illness or injury
- A death in the family.
- A Court appearance
- A sanctioned school activity
Official written documentation from a doctor, hospital
or clinic, from the court or from the school administration is required for those
situations. DOCUMENTATION MUST BE PRESENTED TO THE PRINCIPAL NO
LATER THAN ONE WEEK AFTER THE ABSENCE IF IT IS TO BE ACCEPTED.
Documented absences as defined above do not have to be made up, but they do not excuse a
student from classroom responsibilities.
Students who have been absent for more than five
consecutive days must submit a physicians statement before being readmitted. Any
student who has had a contagious disease, regardless of the length of absence, must submit
a physicians statement before being readmitted. All notes must be submitted to
the Main Office prior to homeroom on the day the student returns to school.
If students are not in attendance on a school day,
they may not attend a school activity that afternoon or evening.
MAKE-UP WORK AFTER ABSENCE
Any student absent from classes is required to make up
all work missed. It is the responsibility of the student to see his/her teachers to obtain
the work and help, if needed, to make up the work. A student will be given ten school days
from the time of his/her return to make up all work missed. Long-term assignments due on a
day that a student has a documented absence will be accepted for full credit the
next day that the student is in school.
