Please encourage your son or daughter to become involved with community service or volunteer activities. We advise our students to look in their local paper, check with their church, local soup kitchens, after school programs etc. It is helpful to begin now and build your resume. Community service is often a main criteria for many scholarship applications.

If the SAT’s are something you are interested in taking, my suggestion would be to start preparing now. There are a few ways that you can prepare for the SAT’s.

  1. In all bookstores they sell SAT preparation books where you can take a mock SAT and actually see how you would do.
  2. There are computer programs available as well. One in particular that a student at our school used and found to be very helpful was by Kaplan and it costs $40.00, it was titled SAT/ACT and PSAT 2004.
  3. Courses are offered as well at different locations and run by a variety of groups, such as Kaplan, Princeton etc.

Students can either register on-line for the test at www.collegeboard.com or come into guidance and pick up a paper registration form.

Here is a good test prep site:  http://www.testprepreview.com/

Junior students considering a four-year college upon graduation are strongly encouraged to take on of these assessments in the spring of their junior year and again in the early fall (Sept/Oct) of their senior year.  See Mrs. Pesce in Guidance for packets or register online.

Please feel free to contact the guidance department if you have any questions.
