SHOP REQUIREMENTS
- Shoes must entirely cover and protect the feet.
Canvas-type shoes and sandals are prohibited. In certain shops, safety boots/shoes are
required. This requirement also applies to Exploratory students.
- In some programs uniforms are required. If so, it is
the students responsibility to purchase and maintain the necessary clothing.
Students may be assigned to wear a hat as part of a shops uniform. If purchasing a
uniform is a financial difficulty, please bring it to the attention of the instructor who
will make arrangements for financial assistance. Other than required uniforms, the
requirements for clothing are modesty, cleanliness and safety. Clothing in shops should be
reflective of the vocational area so that it meets health standards and safety
requirements.
- Hair length should be determined by the dangers
present. If long hair presents a danger, the hair should be tied back and held firmly in
place. In other areas, hair must be netted regardless of length due to sanitary
requirements. Hair length beyond the collar is dangerous near rotating machinery.
- When working around machinery, students will check
with their instructors as to the potential danger of wearing rings, necklaces, bracelets,
etc. In some shop areas jewelry will be prohibited.
- Students are expected to come to shop prepared for
work. Items 1 4 are prerequisite to this. Some shop areas also require students to
provide basic tools and equipment as part of their preparation.
Students will be given an opportunity to observe
these requirements. Failure to comply may result in students being sent home.
